THE PROJECT

Tanzania Goes MUD! Earth Architecture Workshop is a collaborative, research based design build workshop to construct one of the finalist designs in Nka Foundation’s Mud House Competition.

Join us and work with our international team of participants to design and develop a community library in the village of Kibaoni, Tanzania. Learn sustainable design concepts and join the local community to create a home that exemplifies a modern approach to traditional earth construction.

The library will be used by the students of Kibaoni local school and by all the inhabitants in Kibaoni. Through the project we hope to encourage the sustainable development of Kibaoni. This three month workshop will be a challenging and rewarding design build endeavor. We look forward to collaborating with you on the successful project completion.

THE CHALLENGE

The project seeks to encourage the sustainable development of Kibaoni community in Tanzania.

The promotion is to be done through the insertion of earth buildings into the existing frame, contrary to the abuse of concrete as a building material, that raises the cost and, as a result, the poverty of so many expanding communities. The project will be achieved by the construction of a prototype that exemplifies a modern approach to traditional earth construction. Community mobilization will be through awareness seminars and training on the construction techniques. The group of workers shall include local labor but not limit itself, welcoming every international participant who is interested in learning sustainable design concepts.
